SOME CITIES SOME STORIES |
Translated by Andrew Fentem
The squirrels were still there this morning. Same place, same time. I counted them. There were 157 of them, and just like every morning for some weeks now, they were demonstrating, holding up placards with their paws. The signs read: "Extend Alexandra Park now", "We want more trees" and "Death to the Shell service station". And today I even saw one that said “Be with us, Vincent”. Concentrating on catching my bus, I pretended not to have seen them, which was quite difficult considering their numbers. But I still managed to ignore them for a long while. I don’t think they’ll let me pass by so easily before long at this rate.
